Undergraduate Research Experiences

Hooked on Photonics is a ten-week summer research program based in MDITR laboratories. These research opportunities will serve as Gateway experiences for lower-level undergraduates or students who are exploring academic pathway opportunities.

 

Graduate Web Modules

» Course Outline and Initial Modules

This collection of online modules (in development) combines interdisciplinary content to create a unique teaching and learning experience for upper-division undergraduates and entry-level graduate students.

 

Responsible Conduct of Research

This web-based certification consists of three modules: Rights and Obligations; Collaboration, Communication, and Grants Management; and Intellectual Property. All CMDITR participants are required to complete these tutorials, which they can access from the Members Only website. The modules are available to the public for educational purposes at: www.responsibleresearch.org.
CMDITR also offers an RCR Seminar Series, check the events calendar for upcoming sessions.

» Nanophotonics for Breakfast Seminar Series: (coming October 2007)

» Invention to Start-Up Seminar Series: A collection of 19 seminars on start-ups, invention, commercializing technology, and entrepreneurship. PowerPoint slides and video are included.

» Creating and Protecting IP at the University of Washington: A 1.5 hour seminar with patent attourney George Renzoni. PowerPoint slides and video are included.

» Optoelectronics: Lighting the Way in the New Information Technology Age: 2003 UW Science Forum by Larry Dalton. 1-hour Windows Media Player Video.

» Interdisciplinary Workshops: In Summer 2003 CMDITR hosted workshops on the chemistry of materials and devices for photonics and IT research. A video archive of the workshop sessions is available here.

 

Internship Program

CMDITR Graduate students have the opportunity to intern in a company doing work closely related to the research interests of the STC.

The Point interactive tutorials are used in Grade 6-12 classrooms to teach students about the science behind information technology.

 

Travel Grants

CMDITR encourages travel to collaborate with faculty at other institutions by offering a competitive travel grant to its graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.
