Photonic Crystal and Holey Fiber In-Filled with Nonlinear Organics

Create a platform for generation of new laser frequencies and wavelength translation at low power and high efficiency by in-filling photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) with nonlinear χ(2) and χ(3) polymers. PCFs present an entirely new toolkit for phase-matching, one of the primary challenges for efficient wavelength translation. We plan to develop a χ(2) nonlinear PCF to generate 3.8 µm radiation (which is efficiently transmitted by the atmosphere and useful for chemical diagnostics) by mixing 1.1 mm and 1.55 mm lasers as illustrated below.
