Dramatically Improved E-O Activity through Supramolecular Engineering

Challenge:

Overcome strong electrostatic interaction of large dipole chromophores in NLO polymers to improve their E-O activity.

Approach:

Take advantage of the site isolation and self-assembling effects of dendronized polymers to improve poling efficiency.

Impact:

Exceptionally large E-O coefficients (4 times that of the commercial LiNbO3) will greatly facilitate device design and performance.
